Rebels youngsters season over after injury in defeat to Glenorchy

South Launceston’s Natalie Sambell’s season is over after suffering a quadricep injury in the third quarter of their loss to Glenorchy on the weekend. The Rebels are expecting her to miss the next 7 weeks, and with only 6 games remaining of the season it would end her season early.

Sambell has only played the three games so far for South Launceston since joining the club this season, she’s booted 2 goals. The 22-year-old half forward has come through the South Launceston development program and finally got her chance to play back in Round 10 against Kingston amassing 38 disposals.

During the game against Glenorchy, she had 1 goal and had 25 disposals to three quarter time when she had suffered her injury and had her ruled out. She will be hoping to be given another contract with the Rebels for next season.

Senior coach Albert Tampling has said that Natalie Sambell has fitted in well with the South Launceston makeup once she got into the side, and he expects to see more from her next season.

“It’s a bit of a blow to the club seeing her (Sambell) go down, but we’re confident that she will be ready for pre-season training.” Said Tambling.

“She’s a first-year player here at South Launceston, and we know she has a bright future being only 22 years old currently.” He added.

She will join Ally Radloff (head cut 2 weeks) and Laura Humphreys (ACL tear season.) on the injury list, the club is confident that they will get Radloff back for their final few games. Humphreys though will also miss the season after tearing her ACL.

Humphreys has played six games for the Rebels since coming to the side this season, its unclear if she’ll be given another contract for next season as she was listed as a developmental player for the club.

Radloff has played all 12 games for the Rebels this season, after crossing to the side from the Hobart Devils where she played the 6 games last season. The 29-year-old half back also plays in the centre and will hope to do enough to secure herself another year with the newly formed Rebels.
